Suffolk Public Interest Law Group (SPILG)
In 1995, students founded SPILG in order to increase their knowledge of public interest causes and employment opportunities. Public Interest Law incorporates a broad range of public services orientated work that pursues the needs of individuals and causes not often served by the for-profit sector. Job opportunities available in the public sector are found in many fields including healthcare, advocacy for indigent clients, and politics.
These fields are under-funded, and summer positions at these organizations are generally unpaid. SPILG raises money, primarily through their annual auction to provide summer fellowships for those students who wish to work in Public Interest Law during the summer but would be otherwise deterred because of the lack of funding.
For information, please e-mail SPILG directly.
